Nigerians have rallied to support veteran Yoruba actress, Margaret Bandele Olayinka, popularly known as Iya Gbonkan, after she made a plea for assistance.

Last month, it was reported that the actress expressed her frustration at not owning a car despite her decades-long acting career. She shared how she relied on public transportation every day to reach her destinations.

Iya Gbonkan urged her fans to celebrate and support her while she is still alive, rather than waiting to show their appreciation when she is no longer here.

“I have been acting for decades, yet I don’t have a car. I rely on buses every day. If I die now, you will slaughter a cow. Celebrate me now that I am alive. I need a car from my fans,” she appealed.

In a heartwarming update, the veteran actress has received significant financial support from Nigerians. Pastor Gabriel, who watched the video, reached out to her and paid her a visit in Osogbo. He immediately took action by mobilizing funds from kind-hearted individuals around the world to make her dream a reality.

According to an online report, the donations have already surpassed 5 million naira, which will go towards purchasing a car and supporting her housing project.

Notably, Nollywood actresses Abeni Agbon and Tamotiye, who live nearby, also contributed by donating 500,000 naira to Iya Gbonkan.
