Netizens have reacted to Nigerian comedian and filmmaker AY Makun’s outburst after he lamented the perceived lack of support he receives from his male peers in the entertainment industry.
AY took to X on December 23, 2024, to express his frustration; he wrote, “One day man go tell man, ‘wetin man do man.’ We work so hard to stay relevant and take care of our responsibilities. Must we have breast and yansh to have the support of our fellow men?”
“I am still the only man left in the business of filmmaking who is yet to give it all up. THE WAITER is a beautiful movie. I will continue to PERSONALLY push it with my full chest in cinemas nationwide. I am too legit to quit. #thewaitermovie.”
AY’s post quickly sparked heated debates, with some accusing him of diminishing the accomplishments of others in the industry, particularly female counterparts.
One critic, @UchayOkolee, responded, “Reducing the likes of Funke Akindele’s success to having “breast and nyash” lmao!! So Funke and Co have the support of your fellow men because of breast and nyash??? Uncle, the world has already gone mad. Men are now changing their genitals to a woman’s own. You can do yours.
Others called out his claim of being the “only man left” in filmmaking, citing names of other male filmmakers thriving in Nollywood.
@OsumareAyomi wrote, “Femi Adebayo doesn’t have breasts, though. And I’ve not seen Kunle Afolayan’s breasts. Or Niyi Akinmolayan’s breasts. Or Kayode Kasum’s breasts. Maybe the problem has not been properly diagnosed,”
