Police have banned Ugandan musicians from moving about with large numbers of bodyguards and teams.

The police added that singers and other entertainers will not be allowed to be in the company of more than 5 people in public.

The ban was announced by the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango at a press conference on Monday.

The police ban follows last week’s violence perpetrated by gangs of two prominent musicians, Alien Skin and Pallaso.

Pallaso raided the home of Alien on Thursday morning, damaging his house and motor vehicles.

This followed an earlier altercation where Alien’s men assaulted Pallaso after he performed at the Empere festival in Entebbe on New Year’s Day.

Onyango told reporters that such violence would not be tolerated anymore.

“As Kampala Metropolitan and the joint security team, we do not want to see any artist moving with a group of youth hooligans trying to cause havoc,” he said.

“We have resolved that musicians will be allowed to move with a team of a few selected people. They are not supposed to move with more than five people.”

“The rest if caught, will be arrested and you will be asked to sort out who is who,” added Onyango.

The five people, Onyango said, must entail, the artist’s DJ, the manager, the secretary, the treasurer and one person to serve as security.

The ban comes amid heightened tensions between the rivalling artist Alien Skin and Pallaso, with each issuing threats of further attacks.
