Nigerian singer, Yemi Alade has said healthy competition between Nigerian musicians has made them sound better and made them better musicians.
The singer said this during an interview on a UK TV show, ‘Sunday brunch’, after concluding her ‘Empress’ American tour that saw her performing in American cities that include New York, Washington DC, North Adams, Las Vegas, and Houston, and Texas.
On the show, the songstress spoke about her recent tour and why Nigerian music and musicians have now become the toast of the world with Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tems, Tiwa Savage among others topping charts and selling out concerts.
The singer had also appeared on the popular Aljazerah network show ‘The social’ with Femi Oke in Washington, where she spoke about the importance of female representation in the entertainment industry and why young female musicians must aspire for greatness.
Alade, who is currently in the UK is billed to perform at the first-ever ‘Earthshot’ prize awards at the Alexandra Palace. Alade will be performing alongside Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, and Shawn Mendez among others.
The globally televised event is put together by the Royal foundation spearheaded by Prince William and recognises inventive solutions to the environmental problems facing the planet.
Hosted by Clara Amfo and Dermot O’Leary, the hour-long ceremony hopes to turn the tide against the pessimism many feel towards the issue of climate change by showing the positive work being done to help counter the existential threat to humanity.
A star-studded line-up of presenters including the Duchess of Cambridge, Mo Salah, Emma Thompson, Emma Watson, and David Oyelowo, will also be adding glamour to the event.
The singer, in the last one year has released two albums – ‘Empress’ and an EP titled ‘Queen don come’.
