At least 20 police officers were awarded for their brave actions under the Chandaria Bravery Award.
The officers were drawn from the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service and Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
Philanthropist, Dr Manu Chandaria and Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome graced the event at the National Police Service headquarters, Jogoo House on Wednesday.
The team was rewarded with the prestigious Chandaria Bravery Award.
The award ceremony is held annually.
Chandaria expressed his gratitude to all officers for their selfless service to the country.
He urged Kenyans to appreciate the risks police take to keep them safe.
“No one should take for granted the fact that for you to sleep peacefully in their houses or that their businesses are secure. There is always an officer out there who has risked their lives for five hundred people to be safe,” he said.
Koome urged the police to continue serving the country with patriotism and dedication.
“Every single day around our country, the police put themselves in harm’s way to provide safety to the citizens and their property,” Koome said.
He recognised the officers for tackling armed suspects to save lives and intervened during emergencies.
“To the families and friends of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, be in no doubt that we will always honour them,” he said.
The team that was awarded was drawn from among others crack units that include the Special Operations Group, General Service Unit and Border Patrol Unit.
The officers are usually selected by a panel that identifies their brave actions that led to the saving of lives and property.
