A 40-year-old man from Kwamunyanzu in Mwingi Central has allegedly hacked two children to death, leaving their mother hospitalised at Mwingi Level 4 Hospital.
It was gathered that during the time of the incident, the woman and her children, aged four and 10 were on their farm.
Mwingi Central subcounty police commander Peter Mutuma said although the exact cause of the act was not established, it is rumoured to have been accelerated by a land dispute.
Benedeta Wamuo the area chief said the suspect was new in the area, a landowner who lived alone.
“He has not stayed around this place for long and the brother-in-law to the hacked woman had sold the piece of land to the man,” Wamuo said.
She said the footsteps of the accused were traced up to a nearby hill where residents have camped in search of him.
The woman’s husband, Muthui Mathuki, said he can’t figure out what transpired for his neighbour to hack his family members.
“I have three children and one escaped death when he ran away and informed me that his two siblings and mother had been attacked by our neighbour,” he said.
Muthui said on the same day, he and his wife had fetched water for him as it was the norm and did not have any bad blood.
“We usually fetched water for him daily as he is still new in the area. I’m in so much pain and I want the government to intervene and ensure this man faces the law,” Muthui said.
