Mostafa Bakry, a member of the House of Representatives, has reacted to Israel’s “accidental” attack on an Egyptian border watchtower, which was hit by fragments of a shell from an Israeli tank.
In a post made available on his official “X” account, Bakry responded to Israel’s apology over the incident: “This is a matter that must be responded to immediately, and an official protest and complaint must be submitted to the (UN) Security Council.”
“The apology should not be accepted. This is deliberate impudence, and provocation.”
Bakry added that: “I know that Egypt will not remain silent, but public opinion must be informed with the Egyptian position. As for their apology, it is unacceptable, unacceptable, unacceptable.”
“During the ongoing clashes in the Gaza Strip, on Sunday, October 22, one of the Egyptian border watchtowers was accidentally hit by fragments of a shell from an Israeli tank,” he explained.
He further said that this resulted in minor injuries to some border control personnel.
The Israeli army said in a statement on Sunday evening that it had accidentally bombed an Egyptian post near the border at the Kerem Shalom crossing.
Israeli Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee reported that a tank accidentally fired and hit an Egyptian position near the border in the Kerem Shalom area.
Adraee said that the incident is under investigation and its details are being examined, and expressed his regret.
