Court Remands Two Men for Sexually Assaulting Mentally Challenged Girl

Bishir Saidu and Lawal Maiinji, aged 31and 38 years respectively, have been remanded in Katsina Custodial Centre till December 16, 2020, for allegedly raping a mentally challenged girl.

According to the police, the father of the victim, Abubakar Samaila, wrote a petition alleging that Saidu and Maiinji lured his 14-year-old daughter who “is of unsound mind” to a shop where she was sexually assaulted.

The police disclosed that the incident happened around 11am on September 16, 2020.

In the petition, it was stated that the alleged culprits were Samalia’s neighbours in TakeTsani village, Rimi Local Government Area of the state.

The two men who appeared before a Katsina Senior Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday were charged of rape, which according to the police was contrary to Section 254 of the Katsina State penal code law.

Their pleas were not accepted as the Senior Magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko, explained that only the High Court could try the offence.

Dikko, thereafter directed that the two accused persons be remanded in the custodial centre.

Meanwhile, the police prosecutor, ASP Sani Ado, informed the court that investigation into the case was ongoing.
