The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, has been asked by the Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) to explain how a N24.2 billion internet facility project was contracted.
The project is intended for the development of internet facilities at 20 airports, educational institutions, and markets across Nigeria.
In a statement released on Sunday, Olanrewaju Suraju, HEDA’s head, requested that the Minister clarify the procurement process leading to the approval of the Federal Executive Council for the allocation of the N24.2 billion contract.
HEDA cited the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act of 2011 in requesting detailed information about the procurement process leading to the FEC’s approval.
HEDA also sought information on whether the project was covered in the approved 2023 budget and the specific budget line it falls under.
The organization requested information on the approved contractors responsible for implementing the contracts, including their identities and the terms of the contract.
HEDA expressed its willingness to provide further clarification if necessary and expects the requested information to be provided within seven days from the receipt of their letter.
The Minister has not yet responded to the queries raised by HEDA.
