Israel PM delays legal reforms following mass protests

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has delayed a key part of his controversial plans to overhaul the justice system in response to mass protests.

The proposed legal reforms would give the parliament more authority to override Supreme Court decisions and make it difficult to remove a prime minister from power.

Critics said the reforms would benefit Netanyahu, who is facing charges of corruption.

The delay has calmed tensions, but opposition leaders are calling for the reforms to be scrapped entirely.

Netanyahu’s far-right coalition partner has agreed to the delay in return for a guarantee that the reforms will be passed during the next parliamentary session.
