Japan and Egypt have agreed to cooperate in resuming the transition to civilian rule in Sudan, where the military and a paramilitary group are battling for power.
During a joint press announcement, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is an “outrageous act that shakes the very foundations of the international order”.
Kishida and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi confirmed their commitment to work together to stabilize food supply and to support efficiently using agricultural water and improving farm productivity.
The Japanese prime minister expressed his country’s readiness to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to refugees and displaced people.
The weeklong trip will also take Kishida to three other African nations – Ghana, Kenya and Mozambique – and Singapore.
Meanwhile, Kishida visited Africa for the first time since taking office in 2021.
