The authorities of Juba City Council have seized large quantities of expired flour at a warehouse in Konyo-Konyo Market.
Thiik Thiik Mayardit, the Deputy Mayor for Juba City Council said the council confirmed that the flour had expired after conducting a laboratory test of some samples.
“The expired wheat flour was for a general and he has been doing it for a very long time, doing this means we are killing our people. We are the ones to protect them; I want people to refrain from doing such activities,” Mayardit explained.
Mayardit advised the public to always check the product information of goods before using or buying them.
He started:
“We are here serving the people, we are not serving ourselves, this is new cartons but the one put in it is expired so people cannot detect and the people doing this are not far from responsible people.
“There are some people who wanted to pull us behind not to save lives of the people, some people are Repacking expired food, we not going to bog down we have the law in our hands.”
Mayardit further disclosed that the council will soon issue public order banning the sales, distribution, and consumption of spirit alcohol in the city.
“We are not going to sleep the mayor is going to issue public order, reinforce local order to ban alcohol in Juba city council, and we have issued the local order, and there was a lot of resistance, especially from the government.
“We are not going to allow alcoholic gin with red cap, it is going to be banned completely in Juba city, and anybody who will be selling it will be dealt with according to local order which we have here in Juba city council.”
