Lagos Govt to end open defecation by 2025

The Lagos State Government has pledged to end open defecation by the 2025.

This vow was made in line with the national programme tagged, Clean Nigeria: Use the toilet campaign.’

The state, through the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, said the target will be achieved through various initiatives.

According to a statement on Thursday by the ministry’s Director (Public Affairs), Kunle Adeshina, the commissioner made this known while addressing a South-West State Zonal Review Meeting on Clean Nigeria: Use the toilet campaign in Ikeja.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Service, Mr Omobolaji Gaji, the commissioner said the campaign was aimed at building a new culture of safe and sustainable sanitation.

“We initiated a four-point roadmap agenda viz Public Enlightenment and Communication, Regulation and Standardisation, bridging of Infrastructural Gaps and Monitoring, Evaluation and Enforcement to drive the state’s action.

“We have also initialised a Public-Private Partnership, Public Sector Participation and Corporate Social Responsibility plan in the provision of public toilets across the state in order to bridge the infrastructural deficit,” he explained.
