Lagos Youth Awards celebrated outstanding individuals in the state as Mobolaji Ogunlende received the ‘Young Person Of The Year’ award.
Mobolaji Ogunlende is the pioneer of Real Acts of Kindness (RAK) Development Foundation. He is described as a philanthropist, who has been sponsoring lots of young people in Badagry. He reportedly facilitated the release of about 60 men in Badagry prison to enable them celebrate Christmas with their families.
The maiden edition of the event was held at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja Lagos on Sunday, December 26.
It was gathered that BBN360 partnered with some youth-based non-profit organizations to make Lagos Youth Awards a reality.
The event is designed to honour and celebrate outstanding young people who have positively contributed and excelled in their different fields of endeavour.
This year’s theme which is tagged ‘The Working Tribe’ is focused on hardworking persons who have overtime carved a niche for themselves in Lagos State.
The nominees for the award categories were selected from all works of life which include media, entertainment, entrepreneurship, arts and literature, sports, technology, sport, public service among others.
The guest speaker, Dr. Azeezat Yishawu, who spoke about the topic: “Youth Inclusiveness: the time is now” stated that youths have to learn to utilize their bargaining power effectively.
“Participate in every single chain of election as a youth. We should be able to exercise our voting rights en masse. Most youths prefer to do other things than go out to vote on days slated for this exercise.
“Transform your potential energy into kinetic energy.
What value do you have in the electoral process as a youth,” she challenged.
“The readiness to participate in the voting process is low. For us to have a say in power, we have to utilize our bargaining power as youths,” Dr. Yishawu added.
The event was graced by Honourable Seun Daodu, the Commissioner For Youth and Social Development, Lagos.
He commended youths for their acts. He said he believe strongly that youths are not lazy. He also urged youths present to be a sign of hope and good example for other youths looking up to them.
