Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has commenced the state’s resident registration exercise, stating that his administration would establish a comprehensive database and proper identity management system.
The governor, while officially flagging off the registration exercise at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, said that the exercise would enable the state know the exact number of residents and aid effective planning.
Makinde, who commended the team handling the exercise for their commitment led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on ICT and e-governance, Bayo Akande, urged them to put in more efforts to meet the target of the state’s vision.
He said Oyo State was determined to achieve what the Federal Government could not by establishing a system to know who is who and who lives where.
In his reaction, Akande said beyond providing adequate data for planning and budgeting, the data gathered would also help in addressing challenges of insecurity.
He disclosed that an elaborate media campaign and sensitisation to increase awareness has begun. He noted that the registration exercise would cut across all local councils, as well as various sectors.
