A 32-year-old man in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State, burned himself to death in a house after visiting a nearby health centre.
Moses Mukasa, a resident of Alia Boma, Obbo Payam, set himself on fire on Friday.
The Boma chief of Alia Boma, Otim Felix, who confirmed the incident, said he received the information after the sorry incident.
“I tried to ask the parents, and they told me that they don’t know what happened to their son, but they said that the man was sick some days ago, and he had just finished his treatment.”
The reason behind the suicide is not clear, but the police are still investigating the incident.
The Head Chief of Obbo Payam Ring Okumu condemned the act and urged residents in his area to always use proper problem-solving methods whenever they are in trouble.
“In reality, not only me but everybody should condemn it in the strongest terms possible because he is a youth,” he said.
“If you have some burning issues, then we have some councilors within the communities here who have been trained by UNMISS and other partners,” he said.
