The country marked one year since its first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus hit its shores. The first Covid-19 case was recorded on February 25, 2020, when an Italian citizen who worked in Nigeria, returned from Milan to Lagos.

Since the index case was recorded, the number of cases in the country has grown to 157,671 cases, 136,335 recoveries, and 1,951 deaths. The country received a shipment of nearly four million doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines acquired through Covax – a UN-backed initiative to ensure poorer nations acquire the doses.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will receive their jabs on February 6, 2021. The government said about 50% of Nigerians have expressed willingness to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
