An Ondo State Magistrates’ Court remanded Emmanuel Adebayo, a 56-year-old pastor in a correctional centre over the alleged murder of Toyin Olatunji, his 50-year-old tenant.
The incident occurred on April 4, 2023, at No.14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala,Akure, during a quarrel between the defendant and the female tenant.
The pastor allegedly pushed the victim, causing her to become unconscious, which eventually led to her death. The prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliaman, applied to the court to remand the defendant in correctional custody, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP).
The defence counsel requested an adjournment to enable his client to file a counter affidavit to the prosecutor’s application.
Magistrate Tope Aladejana granted the prosecutor’s application and ordered the remand of the defendant in Olokuta Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned until April 27 for a ruling. The defendant is said to be a pastor in a Christ Apostolic Church. The offence is said to contravene Sections 316 and 310 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006.
