The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Akure, Ondo state was gutted by fire on Thursday.
It was gathered from a reliable source that the fire gutted over 5000 card readers. The incident was confirmed by Festus Okoye, the spokesperson of the commission
Apart from the card readers, it was gathered that the fire also destroyed some other essential items.
The cause of the incident is yet to be known as at the time of filing this report. However, Mr. Okoye affirmed that an investigation regarding the incident would be carried out.
He said that even though the incident was a setback, it will not affect the upcoming governorship election.
Men of the state fire service were not on ground as at the time the incident happened nevertheless, the fire service men from the Akure Airport arrived at 9:20pm to salvage the situation.
This incident is coming up exactly a month to the governorship election in the state.
However, no life was lost in the incident
