Senegal Ambassador has disclosed that the nation would present over 70,000 tonnes of products from horticulture, agriculture and handicrafts at the International Horticultural Expo 2023 Doha.
The Ambassador of Senegal to Qatar, H E Dr. Mohammed Habibo Diallo, said Senegal has been encouraged by President Macky Sall to use the Expo as a platform to promote the country’s tourism potential and that of West Africa. The Senegal Pavilion will open on October 12.
“Senegal depends a lot on agriculture, which is a part of our culture and economy. We are participating in the Expo with more than 70,000 tonnes of products from Senegal. These products will cover horticulture, agriculture and other plant-based products of Senegal.
“Senegal is a cultural and historical country in West Africa, with a lot of cultural diversity. Senegal is a tourist country with many places of interest, especially Casamance, a significant and interesting area in Senegal with rivers, wildlife and so on,” he added.
Also, the envoy added that the Senegal Pavilion at the Expo would have handmade crafts from Senegal and its cuisines. He said participating entities would include private and public enterprises whose target would be to capitalise on the significant participation of countries and the three million expected visitors to the Expo.
The envoy told news men that over 100 companies are willing to participate in the Expo in coordination with the Senegalese Export Promotion Agency led by General Manager Zahra Lyane Thiam Diop.
“We will participate from the beginning to the end and plan to rotate the sectors and industries from Senegal. It is a great platform for us to exchange some experiences and ignite interests in our country to potential tourists and investors.”
According to the ambassador, the Senegal National Day at the Expo would see several activities to promote the country’s numerous possibilities further. He said visits from high-level dignitaries, economic forums, and entertainment programmes, including dance and music from renowned Senegalese artists, are all lined up at the pavilion.
