South African government said it has recorded two cholera cases in northern Limpopo province which it said was ‘imported’ from Zimbabwe.
The government, however, urged South Africans to stay vigilant as the government is trying its best to keep the disease from spreading further.
The Province’s Health Department said both patients are Zimbabwean nationals who had crossed the border back into South Africa recently.
The department noted that the first case was confirmed after a 43-year-old male patient tested positive, stressing that the second case is a 27-year-old man who presented at Hellen Franz Hospital.
“The man is in a stable condition and both patients are currently in isolation at the hospital”, the department added.
The two cases were “imported” from Zimbabwe, which is currently battling the outbreak of the disease.
Cholera has so far claimed more than 200 lives in Zimbabwe.
“We urge the public to remain calm but vigilant, and to promptly seek medical attention if they or anyone they know experience symptoms consistent with cholera,” the department added.
