The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has made it clear that he will never support the legalization of homosexuality rights in Ghana and would rather die than be part of a generation that grants rights to the LGBTQI community.
During an interaction with journalists in Tamale, Speaker Bagbin, known for his conservative beliefs, expressed his strong opposition to the West’s advocacy for homosexual rights, emphasizing the negative consequences they are facing.
He cited the declining indigenous population in many European countries due to the actions of gays and lesbians, asserting that Ghana would be better off if it put a stop to such activities.
“If you all want to participate in it, count me out of Ghana,” Speaker Bagbin stated, reaffirming his stance. “I would prefer to join my Maker than to live. That is me. I am a Catholic and pro-life. I will not do anything that will end the world because God says the world is eternal. Until He comes back, we cannot do that to end the world.”
Speaker Bagbin also emphasized that the anti-gay bill would be passed under his tenure as Speaker.
The Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill is currently at the consideration stage in Parliament, proposed by eight MPs from both the Majority and Minority caucuses.
Leading the charge to have the bill passed is Ningo-Prampram MP Sam Nartey George, who is also an Elder at Perez Chapel International.
