The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has commended the general behaviour of travellers on South African roads during the long weekend.
However, RTMC spokesperson, Simon Zwane, expressed concern about the arrest of nearly 700 people across the country for several offenses, including drunken driving, speeding, and producing false documentation.
Zwane applauded most motorists for their good conduct, saying, “The conduct of many motorists on the roads has been commendable, the majority of them have behaved very well.” He advised motorists traveling back home on Easter Monday to adhere to the rules of the road to avoid arrest.
Meanwhile, the N3 Toll Concession has warned of high traffic volumes as holidaymakers return to their homes. Operations Manager for the N3 Toll Concession, Thania Dhoogra, said high traffic volumes were expected on the N3 towards Gauteng starting from midday.
She added, “Peak traffic traveling northbound towards Gauteng is expected to exceed 1,500 vehicles per hour between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Please ensure to maintain increased vigilance while traveling.”
The authorities also urge motorists to drive safely and obey the rules of the road to prevent accidents and fatalities.
