Four Tunisian soldiers tragically lost their lives in a devastating military helicopter crash, as announced by the defense ministry on Thursday.
The incident, which occurred during a night flight near Bizerte, has been attributed by President Kais Saied to the aging state of Tunisia’s military fleet.
Earlier today, the Tunisian navy reported the recovery of two crew members’ bodies from the crash site in the sea.
The helicopter had departed on Wednesday night with a total of four crew members on board, but contact was lost shortly thereafter, according to the ministry.
This unfortunate event follows a similar incident in 2021 when three soldiers were killed in an army helicopter crash during a night exercise.
In response, President Saied has urged Minister of Defense Imed Memmich to take immediate action in renewing the country’s military equipment, recognizing the pressing need for modernization and ensuring the safety of Tunisia’s armed forces.
