Tragic events unfolded in Mutufu town council, Sironko district, located in eastern Uganda, as a 30-year-old woman took her own life in response to her husband’s decision to marry a second wife.

Jesia Cherop reportedly laced the family’s food with poison, which she consumed along with her three children following her husband, identified as Sam Gidudu, taking a second wife.

After ingesting the poisoned food, Cherop and her children began experiencing illness before eventually losing consciousness.

They were quickly rushed to Mbale regional referral hospital, where Cherop and one of the children tragically passed away shortly after their arrival.

Denis Ephiliam Balinwarigha, the Sironko resident district commissioner, confirmed the incident and expressed his condolences.

He further disclosed that the remaining two children are in critical condition and are currently receiving medical care at Mbale hospital.

Efforts to reach Gidudu for comment were unsuccessful at the time.
