Frank Lampard hints at imminent Ziyech start/Chelsea boss holds ‘constructive’ talks with Rudiger

Updates on the situations of a pair of Chelsea stars have been forthcoming on Monday night.

‘Close to starting’

First up is Hakim Ziyech.

Moroccan creator Ziyech of course joined Chelsea all the way back in February, before linking up with Frank Lampard’s squad for the first time during the summer.

Ziyech’s time in southwest London, however, has since proven altogether disappointing.

In fact, to this point, the north African has managed just three appearances for  the Blues, amounting to a grand total of 55 minutes.

This comes with Ziyech having spent the majority of the campaign on the sidelines, after picking up a knee injury during a pre-season meeting with Brighton.

If the latest comments on the part of Frank Lampard are anything to go by, though, then the Chelsea faithful should not have to wait too much longer to see their midfield maestro handed his first start for the club.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s Champions League meeting with Krasnodar on Wednesday, the Pensioners boss hinted at the possibility of Ziyech being included from the off:

‘Hakim Ziyech is now looking like he is coming close to starting a game with his fitness.’

Rudiger return?

The 2nd update regarding one of Chelsea’s stars to have emerged this evening, meanwhile, surrounds Antonio Rudiger.

German international Rudiger, much like the aforementioned Ziyech, has endured a nightmare start to the new season.

The former Roma man’s problems, however, stem from an altogether different source.

After failing to secure an expected move away from Stamford Bridge during the summer, Rudiger has since been frozen out by Frank Lampard.

To this point in the campaign, all of Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori have been favoured over the 27-year-old.

As such, it had looked, for all intents and purposes, as though Rudiger’s Chelsea career had come to an end.

If the latest word stemming from the English media is to be believed, however, then this may in fact not prove to be the case.

As reported by the likes of the Telegraph and the Mail, Rudiger and Frank Lampard held a constructive meeting regarding the German’s situation over the weekend.

In turn, it has been suggested that the stopper could soon be reintegrated into the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge, amid hope of an extended future in the English capital on Rudiger’s part.
