The Inspector General, National Police Service, Hillary Mutyambai has instructed a specialized team to probe the Kenol political chaos that left two dead on Sunday.

In a written statement, Mutyambai said he had instructed the Director of Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and two senior Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.

Mutyambai urged Kenyan politicians to desist from engaging in inciteful utterances, warning that stern action will be taken against those found culpable.

The latest comes in the backdrop of claims that several hundred youths had been paid Ksh.1000 each to disrupt a fundraiser where DP Ruto was the chief guest.

The Sunday morning round of chaos left two dead, scores injured and others counting losses as two rival gangs clashed in Kenol, Murang’a.

Several witnesses who spoke to Citizen TV said several youths believed to have come from Thika and Kiandutu were dropped off in Kenol by four Kenya Mpya buses.

Shortly after alighting, they started pelting motorists with stones and barricaded the Kenol-Muranga road with smouldering tires.

Kenol residents who were repulsed by the picketing fought back, cornering one woman who ratted the dirty details of imported violence.

Ruto allies led by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro seized the moment to castigate the incident while accusing President Kenyatta’s allies of sponsoring it.

Nyoro fingered Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, Murang’a woman representative Sabina Chege, Mathioya MP Peter Kimari and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i saying they were behind the chaos.

“I want to tell you, Mheshimiwa Kimari, na wewe Kibicho, na wewe Matiang’i, na wewe Sabina Chege na hao wakora wengine, mko na watoto wenu, next time leteni watoto wenu na bibi zenu waandamane,” Nyoro said.

The legislator said over 30 people had received calls to show up at a hotel in Thika where plans to disrupt the Ruto event were hatched.

Appearing to shoot from the hip, Nyoro further claimed that Murang’a woman rep Sabina Chege had picked a stipend from the Ministry of Interior to sponsor the protests.
