Liverpool vs Man United
The upcoming weekend’s marquee Premier League clash is, of course, Liverpool vs Manchester United, which takes place late on Sunday afternoon.
These two historically great sides have a long, bitter rivalry anyway.
But unlike in previous seasons of late, when one or both sides haven’t been at their best, 2020/21 looks to be the first campaign for some time where we may see Liverpool and Man United both viewed as genuine title contenders.
It is actually Man United who will head into the match at Anfield sat at the Premier League summit.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side saw off Burnley on Tuesday, lifting them three points clear of 2nd-place Liverpool.
United are also one of the league’s in-form sides right now, with Liverpool actually winless in three league outings.
However, Jurgen Klopp and co. have been much better at home this term and have not lost a Premier League tie at Anfield for some time now.
As a result, this meeting is shaping up to potentially be one of the biggest games of the season.
Matip a doubt/ Fabinho previews Liverpool
Ahead of the game, though, Liverpool’s injury woes look to be persisting.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are long-term absentees due to injury, leaving Joel Matip as Liverpool’s only senior centre-back.
However, Matip has himself has several fitness issues of late and looks to be a doubt to face Liverpool.
According to a recent report from the Mirror, Matip is back running and working with a ball on grass.
However, it is added that the stopper is yet to train with the first-team squad, and Klopp would reportedly need to see him train for two sessions with his team-mates, and come through with no reaction, to be ready.
Elsewhere, Liverpool’s Fabinho has been previewing his side’s upcoming meeting with Man United:
