Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has this afternoon provided a fitness update on his squad, including the latest on midfield trio Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho.

Reds ravaged

The Premier League champions are set to return to action this weekend, in a meeting with high-flying Leicester.

Liverpool will head into proceedings aiming to carry forth their fine spell of form leading into the international break, with the Reds unbeaten in their last 7 across all competitions.

Such hopes, though, have of course been dealt a string of high-profile blows over recent weeks.

A combination of injury and Covid-19 woes have incredibly seen all of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Mohamed Salah confined to the sidelines.

Midfield latest

As such, ahead of Sunday’s Anfield showdown, the major talking point during Jurgen Klopp’s latest press conference unsurprisingly surrounded the wellbeing of his side’s stars.

It had long been predicted that all of long-term absentees van Dijk, Gomez and (to a lesser extent) Alexander-Arnold would be ruled out of contention this weekend.

And Klopp today went on to confirm as much.

Also set to play no part versus Leicester will be Reds captain Henderson:

‘We will see, [but] Hendo not and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] not, that’s clear.’

The news regarding Liverpool’s other midfield stars, however, was more encouraging.

When drawn on whether either Thiago or Fabinho could be primed for a return to action on Saturday, after both were pictured in training on Thursday, Klopp went on to explain:

‘All the rest we will see.’

‘They [Thiago and Fabinho] are in a good way, Ox [is] in a good way. They are all closer but we will see if it is close enough for the weekend.’

Finally, on Mohamed Salah, who tested positive for Covid-19 whilst on international duty with Egypt last week, the Liverpool boss explained:

‘He is probably back today, that’s all I’ve heard.’

‘We are obviously in close contact with him all of the time and, how it always is in these cases, in the moment when you have a negative test then the process really starts. He’s in a good place, he feels well, no symptoms, so that is all fine.’
