March 29 – Amid the deteriorating security situation in Balochistan, 13 people have been killed in two separate attacks targeting bus passengers and a residential house in the province.
According to Jiwani Station House Officer (SHO) Khalid Dashti, the dead and injured were transported to Pasni Hospital. The death toll rose to six after one of the injured succumbed to injuries. Police confirmed that one of the deceased was from Multan.
In a separate incident, seven people were killed in a house attack in a village in Sohbat Pur district. Unknown assailants opened fire on a house before setting it ablaze. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yousaf Banghar stated that the victims were from the same family, including a woman and three children. The attack was linked to a land dispute between the victims and the assailants.
President Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack, stating: “The terrorists are enemies of the country’s development and Balochistan’s prosperity. They cannot tolerate progress in the region.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also condemned the Gwadar bus attack, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives. He directed authorities to investigate the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice. The premier emphasized that targeting innocent civilians demonstrated the brutality of the terrorists and ordered the provision of the best possible medical care to the injured.
The Gwadar attack comes just days after militants killed at least eight people—four labourers and four police personnel—in Kalat and Noshki districts.
Recently, five people, including three Frontier Corps (FC) soldiers, were martyred and 35 others injured in an explosion targeting a paramilitary convoy on the Nushki-Dalbandin highway.
Earlier, militants affiliated with the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) blew up a railway track and attacked the Jaffar Express, which was carrying over 440 passengers. Security forces conducted a complex clearance operation, neutralizing 33 attackers and rescuing the hostages. However, 26 passengers were martyred, including 18 security personnel, three Pakistan Railways officials, and five civilians.
Additionally, three FC personnel were martyred when militants attacked a picket before the train ambush.
