Kawangware: Two families in agony over children suspected to have been abducted

Two families in Nairobi’s Kawangware area are calling on the government to help trace their two children; 2-year-old girls who went missing from their home ten days ago.

The families say the children were last spotted buying sweets at a shop near their home and have not been seen since then.

Ruth Mongare, the mother to one of the girls, has had sleepless nights and over 10 days of despair since the disappearance of her daughter on September 26.

The mother says she was at work when she received a distress phone call from her husband informing her of the unfortunate incident.

“Nikamuuliza mtoto anapotea aje haendangi nje ya gate, alipotea aje akaniambia kuja tujue so nikaambia manager tulikuwa na yeye ananirelease nikakuja kwa nyumba,” narrates Ruth Mongare, Abigail’s Mother.

Ruth rushed home only to find her neighbour Jennifer Nyabayo in tears. She too was in frantic search for her missing daughter Precious Ireri.

Apparently the two girls were playing together before they disappearance. Nyabayo says she was with the two girls outside her house and had only left briefly to take a shower when they vanished …

“Kuna hapa karibu kwa duka ambayo iko hapa karibu kwetu mara ya mwisho walionekana wakinunua sweet ya shilling tano hatujui walitoa pesa wapi,” says Jennifer Nyabayo, Precious Mother.

The two families have conducted searches in Kawangware and Kangemi area with no luck.

The matter has been reported to four different police stations with detectives at Kabete Police Station taking over the case.

According to the Missing Child Kenya which collects information on missing children from organisations and individuals, over 30 children have been reported missing in the last two months alone.

Last week, DCI detectives rescued a 14-year-old child who had been kidnapped in Nyeri and taken all the way to Mto wa Mbu in Tanzania.

In an operation that involved Interpol, one suspect, Alex Malel who used to work near the minor’s home was arrested for coordinating the kidnapping.
