A fresh update on Kevin De Bruyne’s contract situation with Man City has been provided on Tuesday.
Man City offer De Bruyne new deal
Kevin De Bruyne is, of course, one of Manchester City’s standout stars.
The 29-year-old has been integral to the Sky Blues’ success in recent years, meaning losing him would mark a huge blow.
At 29, meanwhile, the Belgian looks likely to have a few good years left in him at the top level.
De Bruyne’s current Man City contract runs until 2023. However, recent weeks have seen speculation begin to mount over the possibility of a new deal for the midfielder.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday that the ‘feeling’ around City is that an agreement is close.
However, a follow-up report on Monday assured that a deal is in fact not close to being found, with De Bruyne not willing to accept the terms on offer:
Negotiations between Kevin De Bruyne and Man City are not in an advanced stage (as yet). He’s not close to signing a new contract as there hasn’t been a lot of progress. There’s a proposal on the table, but the player won’t sign a deal at those terms. https://t.co/T36rij0uTz

De Bruyne annoyed by Man City
And now, on Tuesday, a further insight into the situation has been provided.
Sam Lee, speaking on The Athletic’s Man City podcast, was drawn on De Bruyne’s contract.
And the Citizens insider went on to reveal that the deal currently on the table for KDB is in fact less financially lucrative than his current terms.
This is said to have annoyed the former Chelsea man, with is suggested that De Bruyne is perplexed by the Sky Blues’ vocalness in assuring that they could afford Lionel Messi, whilst at the same time offering him less money.
However, Lee does ultimately go on to state that he believes the Belgian will put pen to paper on a new contract at the Etihad:
City have offered a contract a five-year deal I think, which is worth less net than what he is on at the moment. So, you could maybe say that’s negotiating on their side, a low first offer and maybe this is negotiating on De Bruyne’s part. He’s not happy and he’s saying well, I’m not accepting this up your offer. And I presume they will up their offer and he will accept it
But I suppose the significance is that De Bruyne seemingly is quite annoyed by that first offer. You know it’s one thing to kind of set your stall out early and start negotiations, but it’s another to annoy your best player.
I think one of the things that’s annoyed De Bruyne is the talk from City that they would be able to afford Messi. And he’s thinking well you said he could afford Messi whose on the mental wage, like why are you making me a worse offer than I’m on at the moment …
I think that ultimately he will still sign the contract that’s probably the best way to put it.
