Kolasinac move to Germany likely after being left out of Arsenal’s squad to face Sheffield United

Left out and off?

Reports from Germany have indicated that Sead Kolasinac’s move to Bayer Leverkusen has become increasingly likely. The Bosnian has supposedly been left out of the Arsenal squad to face Sheffield United.

Saturday’s reports that Arsenal had failed in their final attempts to land Lyon’s Houssem Aouar led to questions surrounding the Gunners’ transfer policy. Arsenal have so far only been able to secure income from the sales of Emi Martinez (Aston Villa) and youngster Sam Greenwood (Leeds United).

With mere hours left of the transfer window, an injection of funds could enable the north Londoners to secure the reinforcements that they so desperately need in midfield. A move for Aouar, though, still seems very unlikely.

Kolasinac joined Arsenal on a free transfer from Schalke in 2017. After making 78 Premier League appearances and scoring twice, the 27-year-old could fetch between €10-€12 million, according to reports.

Where lies the blame?

Questions will be asked as to who is to blame for Arsenal’s poor window. Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar have been integral in deciding on the club’s targets, especially since the departure of Head of Football Raul Sanllehi.

The aforementioned links to Aouar, along with Thomas Partey, have dominated the Gunners’ summer.

With just 48 hours left, though, and their priority target seemingly set to remain in Lyon, alternative targets have been hard to come by. Jorginho was rumoured to be an option. However, the Italian wouldn’t provide close to the creative power Arteta was craving from Aouar.

If money is the issue, fingers could of course be pointed towards the ownership, and Stan Kroenke. The American billionaire has not moved to provide fresh financial backing to the club, which, during a summer of relaxed financial fair play, could prove damaging.

Clubs like Chelsea, Leicester City, Tottenham, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United have all invested, and will be competing with the Gunners for a Champions League spot.

Enquiries will surely be made both internally and externally if no new signing is forthcoming.
