Leeds reportedly submit £25 million bid for Man United’s Daniel James

Breakout to breakdown

Manchester United ‘s pursuit of additional reinforcement in wide areas had cast doubt over Daniel James’ future.

The Old Trafford club bought James in 2019 for £18 million from Swansea City. Since then, the Wales international recorded 33 Premier League appearances, scoring 3 times and assisting a further 6.

The 22-year-old’s minutes diminished as the season wore on and Mason Greenwood began to take control of game time. James was seen as a long-term signing. However, the astonishing rise of Greenwood and the stability of Marcus Rashford have put question marks on his future.

United have also been working to bring Jadon Sancho to the club which would demote James further.

The issue with the Sancho deal is United are unwilling to match Borussia Dortmund’s valuation. However, the sale of James could help them in their bid to equal the price set by BVB.

Back again

The latest information reports that Leeds United have reignited interest in James. A £25 million bid has been submitted after having two previous loan offers rejected.

Jack Harrison has impressed on the left for Leeds whilst Helder Costa has been equally as good on the right. The former however is not a Leeds player. Harrison joined Leeds in 2018 on a 2-year loan deal from Manchester City and agreed to extend that through to the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

The arrival of Daniel James would provide strong competition and give Leeds a long-term option in an increasingly impressive front line. Patrick Bamford has flourished since his return to the top-flight and the signing of Rodrigo from Valencia has brought strong hope of survival to Elland Road.

However, reportedly, James wishes to stay and ‘fight’ for his place. With days left of the window, plenty could still happen.
