Leeds ruthlessly troll West Brom’s Romaine Sawyers following comical 20-yard own goal

Leeds United’s social media team have taken full advantage of the opportunity to poke fun at West Bromwich Albion star Romaine Sawyers this evening, after the midfielder gifted Marcelo Bielsa’s men an early lead.

Moment to forget

The Whites and Baggies are currently locked in action at the Hawthorns.

Both no doubt headed into proceedings with their tails up, on the back of positive respective results over the weekend.

Leeds managed to get back on track with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Burnley, whilst West Brom secured a hugely impressive point after recovering from a goal down at Anfield.

As things stand, though, Sam Allardyce’s men will not be building on their morale-boosting result versus the champions.

This comes with the Baggies a goal down to Leeds during the first-half of action.

The evening’s opener, as outlined above, came about in absolutely comical fashion, courtesy of Romaine Sawyers.

Inside the opening 10 minutes at the Hawthorns, the West Brom star, under pressure just outside his own box, turned, before directing a weighty pass back towards the hosts’ goal.

Sawyers, though, had not realised that Sam Johnstone had in fact stepped wide to present himself as an outlet, with the pass in question, in turn, having gone on to bounce into an empty net:

Leeds pile it on

Leeds’ Twitter team, meanwhile, certainly appeared to see the funny side of the incident.

The Peacocks quickly posted a Tweet on the back of their side taking the lead, poking fun at Sawyers.

As showcased below, a tongue in cheek message insinuated that the West Brom midfielder had found the net in style, courtesy of ‘a great goal!’:

*Update* – West Brom’s woes have since only deepened, with Leeds having added a 2nd and 3rd through Ezgjan Alioski and Jack Harrison.
