Lloris: Tottenham might have to ‘be naughty to get winning taste’

Lloris on winning ugly

It is no secret Jose Mourinho does not always play the most attractive football.

Any side the Portuguese tactician has had success with has always had a gritty, aggressive, almost siege-like mentality.

And now Mourinho is at Spurs, he looks to be trying to instill a similar mentality into the north London outfit.

In Tottenham’s new Amazon Documentary, Mourinho was even videoed telling his players to be ‘c**ts’

Mourinho has also urged his side to be more aggressive when speaking to the media.

One man who seems to be taking his bosses’ words seriously is Hugo Lloris.

The Frenchman has recently been speaking to the Guardian about how in football, sometimes you need to know how to win ugly:

“It can be true in football, you sometimes have to know how to win in the ugly way

“You don’t always need to play the fantastic game to win, you just need to know how to win. Particularly on a bad day, it helps if you still know how to win.

“That doesn’t mean you can’t be a good guy off the field, but when you are on the field you have to do everything you can. You might have to be naughty, to get the winning taste, but if you win that kind of game it makes you even stronger.”

Tottenham vs Everton

Tottenham’s first game back this term, in which they might have to ‘win ugly’, takes place in just a few hours’ time.

Spurs will welcome Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton to north London for their first league outing of the season.

Heading into the game, the Lilywhites boast a solid record against the Toffees.

Spurs beat and drew with Everton last campaign, with the Merseysiders having failed to get one over on Tottenham in any competition since all the way back in 2012.
