Luis Suarez’s future up in the air once more as Juventus, Roma & Napoli in striker merry-go-round

Juventus, the previous frontrunners to clinch a deal for Luis Suarez, have turned their attentions elsewhere, leaving the Barcelona striker somewhat in limbo ahead of the new season.

Barca clearing out

Uruguayan international Suarez is of course one of a host of Barcelona players to have seen his future at the club thrown into doubt this summer.

On the back of the club’s embarrassing Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich, changes from top to bottom were widely predicted at the Camp Nou.

First, Quique Setien was swiftly removed from his position as Blaugrana boss, with Ronald Koeman having since replaced the Spaniard.

Lionel Messi, on the other hand, despite publicly seeking out an exit, was eventually forced to stay put:

In midfield, Ivan Rakitic has returned to Sevilla, whilst Arturo Vidal’s long-anticipated move to Inter Milan is expected to be announced any day now.

For Suarez, meanwhile, the situation had appeared largely similar to that of Vidal, with reports having mounted over recent weeks that, after being informed that he did not feature in the plans of new boss Koeman, the veteran striker was all set to move to Serie A, with Juventus.

Dzeko, Milik & Higuain on the move

To this point, however, a transfer has evidently failed to come to fruition.

And, on the back of speculation over recent days that Juve had begun looking at other options amid frustrations with the length of time required for Suarez to secure Italian citizenship, the former Liverpool man’s future has now been thrown into even further doubt.

As confirmed by a host of reliable sources on Thursday evening, the Bianconeri have agreed a deal with AS Roma for Edin Dzeko.

This comes with Gonzalo Higuain’s contract having been terminated by mutual consent, and Roma on the verge of landing Arkadiusz Milik from fellow Serie A outfit Napoli.

As such, Suarez’s Turin switch appears all but off, with his future altogether uncertain as things stand.

Atletico Madrid have been named as another interested party, though Diego Simeone’s men would likely only swoop in the case that the Uruguayan becomes available as a free agent:
