Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has provided updates on the wellbeing of both Sergio Aguero and Aymeric Laporte.
Man City ease past Birmingham
Manchester City were in FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon.
The Citizens entered the competition in the 3rd round, drawn against Championship outfit Birmingham.
Man City had been in fine form prior to Sunday’s game, whilst Aitor Karanka’s Blues found themselves in the bottom half of the Championship.
As such, a victory for the hosts at the Etihad appeared almost a foregone conclusion ahead of kick-off.
And, when all was said and done in Manchester, emerge victorious is precisely what City managed.
Pep Guardiola opted to field a strong starting eleven, which included the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Phil Foden and Ruben Dias.
And such stars proved key to the Citizens essentially having the game won inside the opening half an hour, as Bernardo Silva (twice) and Foden found the net, en route to a 3-0 win.
Pep Guardiola provides Sergio Aguero update
Following his side’s latest victory, meanwhile, Pep Guardiola moved to provide an update on Sergio Aguero.
The Argentine was absent from Sunday’s matchday squad, amid reports that he had been forced into self isolation after coming into contact with an individual who has since tested positive for Covid-19.
And, speaking post-Birmingham, Guardiola confirmed as much. The City boss, though, failed to provide an insight into when Aguero could be back on the pitch:
Unfortunately Aguero was in contact, more than usual, with a person who is (COVID-19) positive so he isolates for a few days. He is negative and he is negative now too, but the protocol says if we have been in contact we have to isolate.
Guardiola also provided an update on the fitness of Aymeric Laporte:
Yesterday Laporte had a first training session alone. So hopefully in one week, I don’t know exactly but hopefully one week, ten days, he will be okay.
PEP 💬 Yesterday @Laporte had a first training session alone. So hopefully in one week, I don’t know exactly but hopefully one week, ten days, he will be okay.
