Man City reportedly making good progress on Kevin De Bruyne contract

De Bruyne’s Man City stint

2019/20 was a rather poor year for Manchester City.

The Citizens ended up finishing the campaign a staggering 18 points adrift of Premier League champions, Liverpool.

They also failed to defend their FA Cup crown and were once again knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

One man who was at his best despite Man City’s poor season, though, was Kevin De Bruyne.

The former Chelsea man had arguably his best season in a City shirt, notching 13 goals and 20 assists in just 35 league outings last term:

Such impressive exploits saw De Bruyne become the first male Manchester City player to win the Professional Footballers’ Association’s (PFA) Player of the Year award back in September.

The 29-year-old was also named the Champions League Men’s Midfielder of the Season earlier this month:

De Bruyne to sign new deal?

With De Bruyne clearly so integral to the Manchester powerhouse, news that he may be closing in on a fresh contract will no doubt come as music to the ears of the City faithful.

The Belgian had suggested earlier this year that he may have had to consider his City future if their European ban was to be upheld.

But with that ban overturned, it is now being reported by the Daily Mail’s Jack Gaughan that Man City are making good progress on a new contract for their star midfielder.

De Bruyne is currently tied down at the Etihad until 2023.

But the report from Gaughan claims De Bruyne is keen to sign a two-year extension to his current deal.

This would suggest KDB is keen to finish his career with the Sky Blues, as he would be 34 by the time that deal expires:
