Man City rub salt in United wounds following Spurs drubbing

Manchester City have this evening taken full advantage of the embarrassing defeat dished out to their cross-town rivals at the hands of Tottenham.

Son & Kane lead rout

United welcomed the Lilywhites to Old Trafford a short time ago, for a Premier League clash.

The matchup came as a high-profile one for a whole host of reasons, with the two sides of course expected to battle it out in the race for European football this season, and Jose Mourinho having returned to his former stomping ground.

As such, a tense, hard-fought affair was widely predicted ahead of kick-off.

What subsequently unfolded over the 90 minutes in Manchester, however, proved anything but.

An absolutely baffling game of football eventually culminated in a 6-1 Tottenham victory.

It was United who took the lead in the clash, courtesy of a Bruno Fernandes penalty inside the opening two minutes.

From there on out, though, it was all Spurs. After Tanguy Ndombele swiftly levelled things up, Heung-min Son turned the matchup on its head inside a frantic opening 10 minutes.

Anthony Martial was then given his marching orders just shy of the half-hour mark, before an onslaught on the part of the visitors resulted in all of Son, Harry Kane (2) and Serge Aurier finding the net.

City pile it on

On the back of proceedings coming to a close at Old Trafford, meanwhile, the backlash, from fans, pundits and more, has since been inevitably swift.

Whilst most have opted to criticise Manchester United for an utterly embarrassing display, though, others have taken full advantage of the chance to poke fun at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

And, as outlined above, one such club to have fallen into the latter category are none other than the Red Devils’ city neighbours.

Taking to Twitter a short time ago, Man City’s official account retweeted Tottenham’s post regarding the final scoreline in Manchester, accompanied by a handshake emoji.

This is a clear reference to when the Sky Blues also downed United by 6 goals to 1 at Old Trafford, back in October of 2011:
