Man United & Caicedo

Recent times have seen Manchester United set their sights on emerging young talent.

The delayed summer window of course saw the Red Devils secure the services of Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo, both of whom are under 20 years of age.

Last month, meanwhile, it was suggested that the Manchester giants had set their sights on another starlet, in the form of 19-year-old midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo is currently plying his trade with Independiente del Valle, having made his way through the youth ranks of the Ecuadorian outfit.

He has notched 31 appearances for the club’s senior side, and was also handed his senior international debut for Ecuador in October of 2020.

Caicedo set for Brighton switch

On the back of United’s links to Caicedo beginning to mount, however, a number of other clubs have also been credited with an interest in the midfielder.

It was even claimed over the weekend that West Ham had opened talks to sign Caicedo:

Now, on Monday, though, yet another Premier League outfit are said to have taken the lead in the race for the Ecuadorian.

According to Duncan Castles, Brighton are close to signing Caicedo for €5.5m. In turn, he is expected to be loaned to Union Saint-Gilloise.

Elsewhere on the Caicedo front, Castles adds that Newcastle made a late push for the youngster, whilst Man United chose to step away from their pursuit following an initial approach in December:
