Manchester United and Manchester City have this evening moved to condemn the respective recent actions of Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden.

Youngsters get the boot

The major talking point in England today has of coursed surrounded ongoings in the Three Lions’ squad.

Gareth Southgate’s men are currently away on Nations League duty, and emerged with a narrow 1-0 victory over Iceland in their first group stage outing over the weekend.

Rounding out the country’s September commitments on Tuesday, meanwhile, will be a meeting with Denmark.

Ahead of their planned trip to Copenhagen, however, the actions of a pair of England’s young stars has since seen Gareth Southgate forced to make altogether unwelcome adjustments to his squad.

In a story which began to do the rounds online early this morning, and inevitably spread like wildfire in the hours that followed, Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden were alleged to have sneaked a pair of females into the English squad’s team hotel in Iceland:

These actions of course broke Covid-19 protocols, quickly leading to calls for the talented youngsters to be removed from the Three Lions setup with immediate effect.

As such, it came as little surprise when, this afternoon, an announcement was forthcoming, confirming that neither Greenwood or Foden would be part of the travelling party making its way to Denmark for tomorrow’s matchup:

‘Totally inappropriate’

As outlined above, though, England are not the only ones to have made their disappointment with the behaviour of the two players in question clear.

In respective statements released to the media over the course of the last couple of hours, both Manchester United and Manchester City have also moved to condemn their youth products.

First, the Red Devils revealed that they are in ongoing dialogue with the FA, having been left ‘disappointed’ by Greenwood:

Manchester City, meanwhile, have labelled the actions of Foden as ‘totally inappropriate’, assuring that they ‘fell well below the standard expected of a Manchester City player and England international’.

Foden himself has also since taken to social media to issue the following apology:
