Pogba & co injured

Manchester United scraped through their 3rd round FA Cup tie with Watford 1-0 at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded a changed squad from his side which went out against Manchester City in the League Cup semi-final. There was no place for Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba or Victor Lindelöf. However, when asked about the trio’s absence, the Norwegian coach simply replied that they were injured.

Solskjaer did not elaborate on the extent or severity of the injuries and neither did he confirm the amount of time which they would be out for. Luke Shaw has faced a series of injuries whilst at Manchester United and the latest will see Alex Telles most likely become the consistent first choice left back.

Meanwhile, the future of Paul Pogba has been of great discussion this season after his agent Mino Raiola confirmed that his time at Manchester United was coming to an end and that he could seek a new club in an upcoming window.

Donny van de Beek played in the deeper number 6 role for Manchester United in the absence of the Frenchman and performed well. A lack of opportunities this season has been a frustration to the Dutchman but he could find a role for himself in the deeper part of the midfield as Bruno Fernandes is unmovable in the number 10 position.

Bailly concussion

Eric Bailly returned to the Manchester United line-up which was to the delight of many Manchester United fans after some struggles with the selection of centre backs this season.

However, the Ivorian international did not make it until half-time due to a concussion which was inflicted by his own goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The keeper, who spent last season on loan with Sheffield United, rose to meet a cross and in the process took out his defensive teammate.

“It’s his neck I think,” Solskjaer said. “His head is fine. There is no concussion or anything like that. But we have got to do scans.”

Bailly also took to social media to reassure Manchester United fans that he was okay.

Solskjaer will be needing all of his available players as his side push for an unlikely title challenge as Liverpool continued to slip up in the league and open the door to their competitors.
