Manchester City have reportedly recorded 8 positive tests, whilst Benjamin Mendy is being investigated by the club for breaching protocol.
Mendy breaches regulations
Manchester City have released a statement saying that they are aware of the Covid-19 breach of French left back Benjamin Mendy. The former Monaco full-back has reportedly broken Covid-19 regulations during a New Year’s Eve event.
“The club is aware of a New Year’s Eve covid-19 breach involving Benjamin Mendy and the subsequent media reporting of it. While it is understood that elements of this incident have been misinterpreted in the reports, and that he player has publicly apologised for his error, the club is disappointed to learn of the transgression and will be conducting an internal investigation,” read the statement.

The news comes as further reports of positive tests were recorded at the Manchester City camp with the total number now reaching 8. The match between Man City and Everton was recently called off due to the number of cases at the northwest club.

The next team which City are due to play is against Chelsea in a match this afternoon at 16:30. Any possible news of the game being called off may not be revealed until mere hours before kick off as was the case with Fulham’s match with Tottenham Hotspur.
Benjamin Mendy also requested for a modelling agent to send girls from London to visit him in Cheshire. Mendy declared he wanted a “big bum Latina” in one message, however there is no suggestion the agent sent any girls.

Mendy’s apology
Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus are the only named players so far to have tested positive, however considering the level of positive tests now at Manchester City, this will only make worse the situation whereby Mendy broke Covid-19 regulations on New Year’s Eve.

The Frenchman has released an apology since but the club is still investigating.
“The club is aware of a New Year’s Eve covid-19 breach involving Benjamin Mendy and the subsequent media reporting of it,” said a Man City spokesperson.
“While it is understood that elements of this incident have been misinterpreted in the reports, and that the player has publicly apologised for his error, the club is disappointed to learn of the transgression and will be conducting an internal investigation.”
Despite the recently approved vaccine being rolled out, the restrictions in place to stem the spread of the virus are extremely serious and expectations of further strictness is expected with the Prime Minister set to address the media soon.
