Leeds vs Arsenal

Arsenal are set to return to action on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners face a trip to Elland Road, for what should prove an entertaining meeting with Leeds United.

Arsenal head into the clash on the back of a pretty average start to the campaign.

Mikel Arteta’s side have lost four of their eight league games thus far, the latest of which saw them put to the sword by Aston Villa.

This defeat, in turn, saw Arsenal slip down to 11th in the Premier League table.

As for Leeds, they have won three, drawn one and lost four of their eight Premier League outings, playing some pretty entertaining football along the way.

Arteta on Willock

One of Arsenal’s biggest issues this season has of course been a lack of creativity.

With Mesut Ozil exiled, the north Londoners don’t appear to have a true ‘no.10’-type player in their squad, to provide the killer ball required to open up opposing backlines.

One man who could well do so, though, is Joe Willock.

The Englishman has impressed in the Europa League this season, with his combination of quick feet, neat passing and surging drives into the box a real issue for defences.

Nevertheless, though, Willock is yet to be afforded a single minute of league action in 2020/21.

As such, speaking during his pre-Leeds press conference this weekend, Mikel Arteta was drawn on the possibility of Willock being handed a start on Sunday.

And the Spaniard went on to explain:

“I mentioned with Joe that I’ve been really impressed with him, the way he’s handled the situation of not having much game time in the Premier League.

“I haven’t seen him train like he’s done in the last five or six weeks under difficult circumstances. I think the reflection of that is the way he’s playing in the Europa League when he’s had the minutes, or the Carabao Cup in this case. He has a chance like everybody else to play on Sunday.”
