US Senator Ted Cruz has expressed his support for Israel’s recent decision to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the influential Republican leader praised the move and emphasized that it will open doors to greater cooperation between the two nations.
Senator Cruz highlighted the significance of the decision, particularly in strengthening bilateral relations and fostering a surge of Israeli tourists visiting Morocco.
The increased flow of tourists is expected to boost economic ties and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Israel’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara came through a letter from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to King Mohammed VI, according to a statement from the Moroccan Royal Cabinet.
In the letter, Netanyahu informed the Moroccan monarch of Israel’s official recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over the disputed territory.
In addition, the Israeli Prime Minister assured the Moroccan monarch that his country’s recognition would be reflected in all relevant acts and documents of the Israeli government.
Netanyahu’s letter stressed in particular that this decision will be communicated to the United Nations, regional and international organizations of which Israel is a member, as well as to all countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations.
As part of this milestone decision, Israel is reportedly considering the establishment of a Consulate in the city of Dakhla, a move that could further enhance diplomatic and trade relations in the region.
