Not fewer than 11 persons have been reportedly killed in the communal conflict between the indigenous people of Alago and Tiv people of Keana in Keana local government in Nasarawa State.
President of Mzough U Tiv, MUT, Nasarawa State chapter, Philip Nongu, who confirmed this to journalists, alleged that over 11 Tiv people including students of the Federal Girls college Keana were killed, noting that students were trapped in their hostels.
Eye witnesses report revealed that the crisis was due to a land dispute between the Alago and Tiv at the Benue/Nasarawa border community.
One of the witnesses told The Guardian that four people were killed, two from Alago and two from the Tiv and many houses burnt down with many wounded.
But the Senior Special Assistant to governor Abdullahi Sule, on Public affairs, Peter Ahemba, who confirmed the crisis, said only one person has been confirmed dead and four wounded.
He noted that the crisis started from the Benue Nasarawa border community and later escalated into Keana, leading to the death of one person and many wounded.
Ahemba however stated that the situation has been brought under control by the security operatives deployed to the area.
Ahemba also called for calm among the warring parties, saying no amount of killing and destruction would provide solutions.
He urged the people not to resort to reprisal attacks but to allow peace to reign.
