Premier League outfit Everton this morning made official the impressive signing of Allan from Napoli.

Allan arrives

Brazilian midfielder Allan had spent the last 5 years plying his trade at the Stadio San Paolo.

And, during this time, the now-29-year-old went on to establish himself as not only one of Napoli’s star performers, but also one of the finest midfielders in all of Serie A.

Allan possesses all of the key traits required of a general in the middle of the park, combining athleticism, drive, an eye for goal, bite in the tackle and a stellar engine.

Such characteristics, however, have not been seen on a consistent basis in Allan’s game for some time now.

Since a proposed move to French powerhouse PSG collapsed in January of 2019, the former Udinese man simply hasn’t looked the same player.

This, in turn, saw him fall out-of-favour under Gennaro Gattuso this past season, when Allan managed starts in just 16 of Napoli’s league outings.

As such, a transfer this summer, in a bid to reinvigorate and remotivate the experienced Brazilian international, had long looked on the cards.

And, as outlined above, such a move has today been forthcoming.

On the back of weeks of speculation, Premier League outfit Everton have confirmed Allan’s signing, in the process reuniting the all-action South American with former boss Carlo Ancelotti.

He has put pen-to-paper on a 3-year contract at Goodison Park, in a deal worth a reported £25 million.

Stars to follow

Allan’s arrival, though, is expected to come as just the first in something of a midfield revolution on the blue half of Merseyside this summer.

An agreement for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez is set to be announced any day now, after which Everton will turn their attentions to pushing a deal for Watford standout Abdoulaye Doucoure over the line:
