Official: Michy Batshuayi rejoins Crystal Palace on loan/Chelsea set to reignite Rice pursuit

A pair of updates surrounding the transfer dealings of Chelsea have been forthcoming online on Thursday.

Eagles switch

First up comes the latest on Michy Batshuayi.

Belgian hitman Batshuayi, on the back of a solid loan spell with Crystal Palace over the 2nd-half of the 2018/19 campaign, was handed another chance to impress as part of Chelsea’s first-team squad last season, following the arrival of Frank Lampard.

The 26-year-old’s year, however, much like his Stamford Bridge stint as a whole, proved altogether underwhelming.

All told, Batshuayi went on to notch 16 Premier League appearances, a figure which, on the face of it, looks respectable.

However, just one of these showings came in the form of a start.

This lack of game-time saw the once prolific attacker manage to find the back of the net on just a solitary occasion in 2019/20.

As such, though he did notch a further 5 goals across all competitions, following Timo Werner’s arrival in southwest London, the writing had since appeared very much on the wall for Batshuayi.

News that the former Marseille man has today been farmed out on his latest loan move away from Chelsea has therefore come as little surprise.

As confirmed in a post across social media a short time ago, the ‘Batsman’ has rejoined Crystal Palace for the campaign ahead:

Palace’s agreement for Bathsuayi is also reported to include an option to buy next summer.

Rice incoming?

The 2nd piece of Chelsea-related transfer news to have emerged today surrounds Declan Rice.

West Ham midfielder Rice was hotly tipped for a Stamford Bridge switch earlier in the summer, though links, over recent weeks, had since gone somewhat cold.

This, however, does not appear to have come as a result of Chelsea cooling their interest in the English international.

As confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are readying an imminent approach for Rice, which will come to fruition once a deal for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been pushed over the line:
