Pellistri in/Romero out: Man United reveal Champions League squad list

Premier League giants Manchester United have this afternoon named the club’s 25-man squad list for their upcoming Champions League campaign.

United back in the big-time

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are of course set for a return to European football’s premiere competition this season.

On the back of a year in the Europa League, the Red Devils are ready to once again fight it out amongst the heavyweights of world football for a shot at Champions League glory.

Last week’s draw saw United placed in Group H, alongside last season’s finalists Paris Saint-Germain, semi-finalists RB Leipzig and Turkish champions Istanbul Basaksehir.

Their campaign is set to get underway in two weeks’ time, when the Manchester giants make the trip to Paris for a meeting with PSG.

Cavani in/Jones out

As such, with their European endeavours now less than a fortnight away from resumption, Manchester United this afternoon unveiled the club’s Champions League A-list squad.

The panel features 25 players, including 8 classed as ‘locally trained’, to comply with UEFA’s regulations.

Elsewhere, deadline day additions Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri are also handed call-ups, alongside Donny van de Beek.

There is no space, however, for either Phil Jones or Sergio Romero. Whilst the former’s omission has not come as much of a surprise, Argentine international Romero will no doubt be deeply disappointed not to be included, having acted as United’s no.2 just last season.

This comes with both Dean Henderson and Lee Grant falling under the category of either ‘club trained’ or ‘association trained’.

It should also be noted that the likes of Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood, due to their age and homegrown status, remain on the Red Devils’ B-list. This, in turn, means that both can also be called upon by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United UEFA A-List Squad:

Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Dean Henderson, Lee Grant.

Defenders: Eric Bailly, Tim Fosu-Mensah, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Alex Telles, Axel Tuanzebe, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Midfielders: Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Daniel James, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Facundo Pellistri, Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek.

Forwards: Edinson Cavani, Odion Ighalo, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford.
